Scenario :: 14-Oct-2009

Yaw Mensa got married to Annette 3 (three) months ago. They live in a modest, one bedroom rented premises in Taifa. Last month, Yaw Mensa received an interesting offer from his father in law to the effect that Yaw Mensa and Annette could move to the boy’s quarters of a new three- bedroom house the father in – law had just completed in East Legon. He says Yaw Mensa can live there for as long as he wants.
Yaw Mensa is happy but his family is not. To them he will lose the respect of his in – laws immediately he accepts the offer. Secondly, his family argues that Annette will also begin disobeying his orders since they would be living in premises provided by her father. Yaw’s Mensa’s best friend, Fiifi has also kicked against the idea. He says most people started life in a small way and worked their way up to the top gradually. If yaw accepts this offer, he will look like a freeloader who married into Annette’s rich family just for the benefits. But Yaw disagrees. He counters that Annette’s parents treat him as one of their own children and in life; we all get a push sometimes. He also asserts that contrary to fears, the relationship between him and his in – laws will not change as everybody fears. Annette his wife is supportive of the idea.
He wants to accept the offer but his family and best friend say no. He came to the drive talk desk this morning, very distressed. Advise him on drive talk. Sponsored by kasapa….

By virture of the marriage Yaw is now a member of Annette's family as well. He should be guided by whatever decision he would take if the offer were to be made by his parents.

Either way, what makes them confortable is the best decision.....the issue of loosing respect does not arise. Would it be disrespectful on the part of your wife to live in Yaw's parents home.

It might just be a temporary arrangement.

All the best

it doesn't make any difference. i have an evidence and it's working out well. it all depends on respect for the marriage.

I will advise Yaw and the wife to stay in their single bedroom apartment which will make them work hard towards having their own comfortable apartment in the near future. To move into the in-laws residence is not advisable. I am a woman and I know the implications.

I think that they both must think it over again and make the right decision that will benefit them

Bola, I don't know why people willingly dig their own craves. Look as soon as he agree to this offer he sign his own warrant and waiting to be sanction. he should be man enough to provide for his own family even if is in small way and God will surely see him through but for the offer, HELL NO!!!
